To start, from the concentrate you should know:

Dog concentrate is not real food. Its ingredients are byproducts. Chicken is not chicken, but chicken meal, and the same goes for salmon, lamb, beef, etc. It's loaded with additives, flavorings, colorings, and chemical preservatives. When you have the chance, check a nutrition table on any bag of concentrate and you'll notice it's made from processed flours. Also, pay attention to the number of years the concentrate can be preserved in a bag. At least 2 years... imagine the amount of chemicals that bag contains to preserve it for so long at room temperature. Some references in this category: Orijen, Dog Chow, Agility Gold, Diamond, Evolve, Hills, Italcan Plus. Also Max Mature, Naturalis, Pro Plan, Ringo, or Ringo Vitality, Royal Canin, Vet Life, etc.

On the other hand, natural food does not have artificial ingredients or chemical preservatives. Generally, it requires refrigeration and is perishable in the short term. But beware, to properly feed our dogs, it's not enough for it to be natural, it must be:

  • Food with quality ingredients, with all the necessary nutrients (vitamins and minerals), and in exact proportions (balanced) to avoid health complications not only from lack but also from excess of the same.

What do experts say about dog concentrate?

Experts claim that dog concentrate decreases the lifespan of pets. A recent British study titled "The Truth About Your Pet Food" demonstrated that the concentrate industry profits greatly from ingredients that are nothing more than waste. Conclusions are presented such as "9 out of 10 visits to the vet are due to poor animal diets." Jonathan Self is one of the experts in canine nutrition who participated in the study accusing the large dog food industries of reducing the quality and lifespan of these animals. According to him: "The dog food industry sells processed food that is not fit for human consumption but also not for canine consumption."

For this reason, the main importance of a natural diet for your furry friend is that it represents the best option to give them the possibility of an excellent quality of life and greater longevity.

It is proven that a natural diet reduces the chances of your dog developing diseases such as cancer, diabetes, obesity, and osteoarthritis, among many others. What do you think would happen to your health if you ate processed flour-based food with chemicals every day?

What should Natural Food for dogs be like?

  • It must have quality ingredients, complete and balanced. Complete means it contains all the necessary nutrients for the correct development and well-being of a dog, including being supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Balanced means it contains the amount of each ingredient in exact proportions that provide health and well-being to dogs, preventing nutrient deficiencies and more commonly, overdoses when a recipe has not been properly calibrated.

A natural food for dogs should have ingredients such as:

  • Vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant sources: found in fruits and vegetables like blueberries, broccoli, apple, and carrots.

  • Highly digestible animal protein: such as turkey, salmon, or rabbit. Chicken is the lowest quality protein for our dogs because it is poorly digested by them.

  • Carbohydrates: grains like rice are excellent for obtaining this nutrient.

  • Fatty acids for skin and coat: flaxseed, rosemary, or coconut oil are extraordinary natural fatty sources.

  • Fiber: apple or oatmeal supply this nutritional need."
